HVAC Operator Part-Time

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Part-Time HVAC Operator is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining all equipment, devices and parts of refrigeration systems, air conditioning units, and heaters during, before and after games and events.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Part-Time HVAC Operator is responsible for:

  • Install, repair and maintain all HVAC equipment, devices and parts including but not limited to: Refrigeration systems, Air conditioning units and Heaters
  • Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate building codes and ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements as well as adhere to relevant legislation;
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service on HVAC systems and devices;
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of HVAC equipment onsite;
  • Maintain heating and air conditioning systems, boilers, pumps, fan units, control panels, thermostats, cooling towers, etc.;
  • Monitor need for equipment maintenance and repair;
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service;
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments;
  • Provide general status reports as scheduled;
  • Prepare budgets;
  • Determine needed supplies and equipment;
  • Keep daily reports and;
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Valid 313A Provincial Refrigeration Technician License
  • Valid Provincial G1 or G2 Gas Technician License
  • Three (3) cumulative years of licensed work experience as an HVAC Technician
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of building systems
  • Ability to carry out sustained physical labour, stand for long periods of time, work with tools, and lift objects up to 50lbs
  • Demonstrate familiarity with tools and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member
  • Ability to work varied schedule including days, evenings, overnights and weekends

Working Conditions

  • Work requires significant physical effort, walking (including stairs), and lifting heavy weights.
  • Work requires utilizing tools and equipment that could cause physical injury if not handled and operated following safety practices and procedures.
  • Required to follow WHMIS and provincial Health and Safety requirements.
  • This is a unionized position and subject to the terms of a Collective Agreement with the Ottawa-Carleton Public Employees Union, Local 503.
